I hate year end book work. So I need a diversion.

have you ever called Shaw and listened to the voice prompts. They are all clear, crisp from the same set of takes then you get to option #3 'Order Internet Services' - Who is THAT !.!.!

I have discovered that I should switch my DHCP single IP SHAW connection to one with a Static IP.

So I call Shaw 664-2121.

  Hey I'd like a Static IP...

  Oh, I can't help you with that you have to talk to SpongeBob. He is the one responsible for our business services. He works normal hours you will have to call later.

  Business services?  That's odd.

  You see the static IP's are only available with our business packages.

  That's clear. Thanks for your help(?)...
Hang-up

22 hours later I race home frantic drool pooring out the side of my mouth, if only I can get home before 4:30 I can get my Static IP that'll be Sum-Wheat. { You gotta read that last bit out loud to get the full effect } Call 664-2121

  Hey is SpongeBob there??

  One moment while I transfer your call.

  SpongeBob here, how can I help you?

  I'd like a SOHO + 1 Static IP setup for my account.

  No Problem that will cost you Uber Dollars and weel bill you, dont worry.

  Sounds good, last week I struck oil in my backyard so now I should be able to afford your broadband.

  O.K. I'll email you the setup information for your static IP. What is your email.

  <crap>
  I'll have to check...
  <search frantically for setup work order, find it, struggle to read the faded carbon scrall of an email address, username and password. Add in a POP account to kmail, test to see if I can read emails from the account (hey look at all the cool Shaw offers I've been missing out on)>
  Got it, use this account.....

  O.k. You should have that information this evening.

  Thanks.

Wait two days.... Call 664-212 This time in the afternoon from work (Please don't tell anyone I used my work phone).

  Hello this is Squidwerd how can I help you...

  Yo - I ordered a Static IP and some dude there told me they would email me my setup info and I have not received it..

  Just one minute while I transfer you to service.
<transfer>

  Thanks for waiting. This is going to take a moment, can I call you back.
<hours go by, I leave. I got voice mail so it's no big deal>

<no voicemail message later that evening, no voice mail when I get back to work>

Later that evening. Call 664-2121

  Thank-you for choosing Shaw.

  Hey what the heck I keep calling and I still don't have a Static IP what's the deal?

  I'll have to transfer you to tech support, please hold.

  Hello this is Patrick how can I help you...

  Hey what the heck I keep calling and I still don't have a Static IP what's the deal?

  What, you still haven't seen it. I have a note here on your account that the email was sent.

  To what account?
<ya the right account>

  When was the email sent.

  Please hold on..
<hold>

  Looks like the Static was not setup i'll have to configure and partition and segment and then I'll be able to allocate and administer. Can I call you back, your at this number on my call display right?

  Yup.
<wait> <clean kitchen> <do dishes> <draft a solution to the world hunger problem> <misplace the paper with the solution to world hunger problem> <phone rings... it's not for me> <Suffer panic attack because Shaw is going to call me back with my Static IP and the phone is busy.> <where's a root when you need one...> <Phone rings again>

  This is Patrick from Shaw I have a problem. I'll have to contact THE ONE in Calgary only he can solve my problem. I work early early in the morning and I assure you I can reach THE ONE early early and when you wake up your problem will be resolved.

  Thanks.
<hang-up>

So I get home the next evening, check my shaw email and no static IP info. ATDT 664.2121

  Thank-you for choosing Shaw.

  Ya I was talking with Patrick and Sponge Bob and Squidwerd and we were trying to get my static IP setup so you could email me my setup info...

  One moment.

  Ya I was talking with Patrick and Sponge Bob and Squidwerd and we were trying to get my static IP setup so you could email me my setup info...

  Oh I think it was Mrs. Puffs you want, their name is on this call ticket I pulled up on my computer here...

  Ya whatever, where's my static IP??

  Please hold <hold>

  Mrs. Puffs says she sent it to you this morning.

  Crap. I just checked my email, what's wrong with my email.

  Give me your login info and I'll see.
< cringe. bla bla bla >

  Yup, I see it there it is one of 64 new emails.

  No, I have no emails...

  Yes you do...

  No I don't. What email are you checking?

  Well we took that login info you gave us and changed the username into the email address and then when we login we can read your email.

  Pardon.

  You login is your email address. Your login is not used for this email account that we are using. That login id is for your other email address.

  Pardon.

  Yup - you have two eamil addresses. And we sent your login info to the correct one and you must be using the wrong one..

  Pardon....

I end the call by apologizing for the trouble and thanking them for their time. I am reminded about that new reality show where the contestants are realy BAD singers and the judges make them think they sing well....

Anyway. 1.5 years after signing up for my shaw account I am checking my OTHER email account. Hey, cool, Shaw contests Prizes and giveaways...

Oh, and yes the static IP does work. It also comes with an email address. It's great because the misspelling of my name is so hideous no one will know it is from me.
